Entrepreneurial Streak

Entrepreneur might still be a dirty word after the high-profile corporate failures of the 1980’s, but that has not stopped Australia becoming the fourth most entrepreneurial country in the world, according to a new survey.

A global report examining 21 of the world’s most developed countries found that a high level of female participation in starting new business was one of the key reasons behind our high entrepreneurial standing.

In terms of the level of respect for entrepreneurs, Australia ranked ninth, highlighting the fact that we do not value entrepreneurs enough.

The study also found that being almost entirely public sector handicapped the education system, and this has created what has been called a "public service mentality". Swinburne University undertook the study.
